Joseph R. Woody, Sr., 71, of Simpson, PA, died Sunday, July 5, 2020 upon arrival at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA. He is survived by his wife the former, Naomi Muchal. Born October 18, 1948 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Robert and Frances "Fritz" Vadala Woody. Joe attended Carbondale public schools and later enlisted in the U.S. Navy having served honorably during the Vietnam War where he received the National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal with bronze star. After returning to civilian life, Joe worked his entire career as a truck driver having started with Tuzze Trucking and then with Mancuso Trucking, both of Carbondale. He later enjoyed 25 years of employment with Herb Kilmer and Sons of Kingsley, PA. Joe's fellow truckers will remember him by his CB Handle, "Rubber Duck". Joe was a member of the V.F.W. Post 7963 and American Legion Post 624 both of Eynon, PA. He enjoyed shooting pool, playing cards, going to the casino and contributing to the Pennsylvania State Lottery. His grandchildren were the center of his life and in 2016 he found happiness and true companionship when he re-married his wife, Naomi. He is survived by two sons: Joseph, Jr., and wife, Sarah of Forest City, PA and Jeremy and wife, Melissa of Scranton, PA; a daughter: Melinda Newhart and husband, Jared of Moscow, PA; two step daughters: Renea Chapman and Dawn Emmett; two brothers: Robert and wife, Patty of Visalia, CA and Jerry and wife, Carolee of Carbondale, PA; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also preceded in death by a son: Steven Woody; and a daughter: Sarah Frishko. The funeral with military honors was held on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, with services officiated by Pastor Tim Madden. Cremation followed.
