Joseph J. Washburn, 73, of Thompson, PA., died Saturday night, May 17, 2008 at home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of the former Shirley Van Wert. They were married on October 17, 1959 in Throop, PA. Born March 5, 1935 in Fell Township, PA., he was the son of the late Charles and Mildred (Budville) Washburn. Prior to his retirement, he was employed at the Tobyhanna Army Depot as an electronic technician. He was an Air Force veteran and was of the Catholic faith. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. A jack of all trades he especially enjoyed carpentry work and spending time in his workshop at home. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be forever missed by his family and his faithful companion Julie. He is survived by three children: Joanne Krisler and husband Michael of Peckville, PA., Charles J. Washburn of Thompson, PA. and Lisa Petroski of New Milford, PA; five grandchildren: David Loff, Charles Washburn, Jr., Joseph Washburn, Thomas and April Petroski; one great granddaughter: Sienna; two brothers: Thomas Washburn of Texas and John Washburn of Carbondale, PA.; Several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son: Joseph; one brother: Charles; one sister: Rosemary Washburn. A blessing service was held Thursday, April 22, 2008 at 10:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with the Rev. Kenneth Seegar, pastor of St. Martin of Tours Church, Jackson, PA., officiating. Entombment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton, PA. Friends called Wednesday, April 21, 2008 from 5-8 PM. Pallbearers: C.J.
