Joseph Richard J.R. Liuzzo, 24, of Waymart, PA., died Wednesday night, November 3, 2010 at Mercy Hospice, Scranton, PA.
Born June 25, 1986 in Scranton, PA., he was the son of Marie Lynady Gallinot of Reading, PA. and Joseph Liuzzo of Carbondale, PA. He was the step son of Kevin Gallinot of Reading, PA.
He was a graduate of Western Wayne High School, class of 2007. J.R. was a happy young man and strove to lead a normal life despite being born with cerebral palsy. He loved to watch the news on Channel 16 and the Weather Channel. He had a special fondness for weatherman Joe Snedecker and he loved his monkey, George. J.R. always had a smile for anyone who came to visit him.
J.R. lived with his grandparents, Una and Walter Lynady of Waymart who were his primary caregivers for the past 16 years. He was their whole life and they loved him dearly. His aunt Cindy Lynady of Carbondale also provided care for J.R. and loved him deeply.
The family would like to thank Michelle Hineline of Waymart who was his aide at school and was always there by his side. Thanks is also given to Mrs. Mitchell the school nurse at Western Wayne who always brought a smile to J.R.'s face and to Mary Jo Barr of Lake Ariel for her care and assistance.
Special thanks is extended to the doctors, nurses and staff at Mercy Hospice, especially nurses aide Audrey (Ponytail) for the exceptional care given to J.R. in his final days.
J.R. will be deeply missed by his family, friends and those whose lives he touched in a truly special way.
He is survived by two step sisters: Melissa Strunk of Norristown, PA. and Mallory Gallinot of Carbondale, PA.; aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a cousin: Jamie Lynady, who died on August 16, 2008; his paternal grandparents: Joseph and Gloria Liuzzo.
The funeral was held Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 8:30 AM from the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place at Terrace Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. William D. Campbell, senior priest. Entombment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Friends called Friday, November 5, 2010 from 7-9 PM.
