Obituary

Joseph J. Muia, 81, of Childs, PA, died Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA, after an illness. He is survived by his wife of 60 years the former Judy Vadala. Born July 7, 1935 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Patrick and Victoria Chrastina Muia. Joe was a veteran of the Korean War having served in Marine Corps. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a plant manager for Lin-Gor Wall Coverings in Clifton, NJ. He was an avid hunter, golfer and bowler. He especially enjoyed his trips to Atlantic City and the local casino's. He is survived by three daughters: Renee Muia Cottle of Clifton, NJ, Kimberly Muia West and husband Ralph of Clifton, NJ and Denise Laite and husband Chris of Green Township, NJ; one son: Patrick Muia of Clifton, NJ; one brother: Patrick Muia and fiancée Clytie Miller of Archbald, PA; six grandchildren: Matthew and Kelly West, Christopher and Anthony Laite, Ryan and Katie Muia; many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a nephew: Patrick Muia, Jr. The funeral was held Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Paul Fontanella, assistant pastor and Deacon Edward Casey. Interment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Matthew West, Christopher Laite, Anthony Laite, Ryan Muia, Ben Allman and Brian Coakley.
