Joseph M. Kavulich, of Greenfield Township, PA., died Tuesday morning, May 27, 2008 on his 82nd birthday at the VNA Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA. His wife of 56 years is the former Betty Holowach, who was formerly from Herrick Center, PA.
Born May 27, 1926 in Scott Township, PA., he was the son of the late Joseph J. and Anna (Papcun) Kavulich.
He was a lifelong member of Corpus Christi Church in Montdale, PA., and a former member of its Holy Name Society. He attended Scott Township schools and was a self-employed dairy farmer for 45 years. He was a member of the Eastern Milk Producers in Syracuse, New York until his retirement from dairy farming in 1986. For the next 17 years, he raised beef cattle and was a bus driver for the Lakeland School District. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Slovak Association. He is survived by one daughter: Doreen M. husband Charlie Brewer of Greenfield Township, PA.; one son: John M. Kavulich of Tennessee; one sister: Margaret Kowalewski of New Milford, PA.; four grandchildren: Michael Tucker of Allentown, PA., Lauren Crist and (twins) Chelsea and Maisie Kavulich, all of Tennessee; one great granddaughter: Natalie Tucker of Allentown, PA.; Several nieces nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Michael and Baby Joseph Kavulich; two sisters: Anna Uhrin and Mary Slebodnik. The funeral was held Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 9:15 AM from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Dundaff Main Streets, Clifford, PA., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Corpus Christi Church, Montdale, celebrated by the Rev. William Flynn, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Friends called Friday, May 30, 2008 from 5-8 PM. Pallbearers: Jeff Nogan, Ron Morcom, Ed Piccini, Ron Kowalewski, Joe Slebodnik and Robert Slebodnik.
