Joseph A. Hall, 97, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, July 10, 2016. His beloved wife of 66 years, Veronica Vosefski Hall, died on November 21, 2007.
Born in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Michael and Florence Brown Hall.
Educated in Carbondale public schools, he proudly served his country in the Army having participated in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II. He was a retired trainman for the Delaware and Hudson Railroad and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, the VFW, American Legion, DAV, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was an active member of the Carbondale Senior Center where he would often be seen shooting pool on the table he donated to the center.
He enjoyed woodworking and was a "jack of all trades," who was always called on when someone was in need of help.
The family would like to thank the VNA Hospice and Home Instead Senior Care for their loving care and support to Joe and his family.
He is survived by four children: Mary "Cookie" Staple and husband Thomas of Simpson, PA, Elizabeth Jones of Jermyn, PA, Veronica "Roni" Newcomb and husband Charles of Carbondale, PA and Joseph Hall and wife Shirley of Harrisburg, PA; one brother: James Hall of New Jersey; nine grandchildren: Thomas Staple, Michael Staple, Maureen Nichols, Robert Jones, Erin Kettenburg, Kevin Jones, Curt Calafut, Kiely LaValley and Emily Ruble; 9 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother: Jack Hall.
The funeral was held Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. from the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place at Terrace Street, Carbondale, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Rose Church, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Andrew Kurovsky, administrator. Entombment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Thomas Staple, Jr., Curt Calafut, Kevin Jones, Charles Newcomb, Charles Karpati and James Tancredo. Friends called Wednesday, July 13, 2016 from 6-8 p.m.
