Joseph S. Gominger, 81, of Carbondale, PA., died Thursday morning, January 8, 2009 at the Mercy Hospice Inpatient Unit, Scranton, PA. His wife was the late Catherine Sweeney.Born November 8, 1927 in Trenton, NJ., he was the son of the late Joseph Kost and Claire (Bryzowski) Gominger.He was a heavy equipment operator for Addy Asphalt Company in Wilkes-Barre for many years and was with the Operating Engineers 542nd. He served 17 years in the United States Air Force and was a member of the Simpson VFW Post 4712.
He enjoyed camping, salt water fishing, traveling, was an avid bowler and a member of Racqueteers Fitness Club. He loved his family and dogs very much. He is survived by two daughters: Andrea Morgensten of Houston, TX. and Nadine Staples of Carbondale, PA.; one son: Gerald Gallagher of Olyphant, PA.; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces nephews.He was preceded in death by one son: James Gallagher; one daughter: Linda Newcomb.Cremation took place from Maple Hill Crematory, Archbald, PA. Inurnment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Farview 41st Streets, Carbondale, PA.
