Obituary

Joseph F. Gatto, 83, of Carbondale, PA, died Monday, November 26, 2018 at Regional Hospital, Scranton, PA. He is survived by his wife the former, Shirley J. Lentz. They were married on June 18, 1960. Born October 17, 1935 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Gaetano "Thomas" and Mary Molinaro Gatto. Joe was a 1953 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and upon graduation he entered the U.S. Army. He served in the Army for four years until becoming disabled from an accident. Joe was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale. He liked spending time with friends at the poolroom playing cards and shooting dice. He enjoyed horse racing and watching football. Most of all, Joe will be fondly remembered as a loving husband and proud father and grandfather who always put the needs of his family first. His wife and children have many fond memories of spending time at Newton and Chapman Lake. He is also survived by four children: Regina Luchonok and husband Nicholas of Forest City, PA, Denise Gatto of Bethlehem, PA, Joseph Gatto of Dickson City, PA and Louis Gatto of Hamilton, NJ: four grandchildren: Lindsey Luchonok, Nicholas Luchonok, Jr., Max and Riley Gatto; two sisters: Marie Jackson of Carbondale, PA and Carmelita Potash and husband Robert of Connecticut; one brother: Thomas Gatto of Archbald, PA; several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by four brother's: Nunzio, James, Samuel and Louis Gatto; four sister's: Serafina Gravine, Rita Elias, Ann and Serafina Gatto. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, November 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Seth Wasnak, assistant pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Louis Gatto, Joseph Gatto, Max Gatto, Nicholas Luchonok, Sr., Nicholas Luchonok, Jr., Frank Gatto, Joseph Gatto and Louis Gatto. Arrangements were entrusted to Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
