Joseph E. DeGroff, 82, of RR 1, Nicholson, PA., died Saturday morning, October 14, 2006 at the VNA Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA. He was the husband of the former Constance Labonte, who died December 15, 1994.
Born April 12, 1924 in Nutley, NJ., he was the son of the late Ephriam P. and Helena Zingley DeGroff.
He formerly resided in Old Bridge, New Jersey and was a retired carpenter for Local 1006 in New Jersey. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Coast Guard and was a member of the Elk Montain VFW Post 8488, Lenox, PA., the Albert H. Crane American Legion Post 221, Carbondale, PA. and the American Legion Post 177 in New Jersey. He will be deeply missed by his best friend Baxter.
He is survived by two daughters: Mary Ellen DeGroff-Cucura and Husband David of Factoryville, PA., and Helena Marie Jones and husband Donald of Old Bridge, NJ.; four grandchildren: Michael and Danny Jones of Old Bridge, NJ. and Andrew Nunez and Jennifer DeGroff of Factoryville, PA.
He was preceded in death by one sister: Blanche Reyelt; two brothers: Edward and Norman DeGroff.
A memorial service with military honors was held Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 2:00 PM from the Elk Mountain VFW Post 8488, (Exit 211 Off I 81), Lenox, PA.
Cremation took place at the Maple Hill Crematory, Archbald, PA.
Shifler-Parise Funeral Home, Clifford, PA. assisted the family with arrangements.
