Obituary

Joseph "Sugars" Ciance, 102, of Carbondale, PA, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Tuesday, March 31, 2015. His wife the former Josephine H. Kluck died on August 5, 1964. Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Angelo and Antoinette Craparulo Ciance. Over the years, Joe worked at the General Motors Corporation in Syracuse, NY and was a miner for 20 years at Northwest Coal Company, Powder Mill Slope. He also worked for General Electric in Highspire, PA and retired from the Riverdale Dress Factory in Carbondale where he was a receiving manager. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale. When he was younger, he played the banjo in a local band, wrote music and played numerous times on local radio stations. He was a life long New York Yankee fan and loved the horse races at the OTB in Carbondale. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. Everyone who knew him had only kind words to say about him. He will be deeply missed. The family would like to thank all the kind and compassionate people who helped take care of Joe. He is survived by three daughters: Antoinette Ruddy and companion Louis Montonaro of Carbondale, PA, Mary Ann Cortino and husband Guy of Greenfield Township, PA and Lucille Kelly and husband Chuck of Carbondale, PA; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Baby Michael Ciance and Michael Ciance; five sisters: Katherine Desien, Louise Guilivo, Rose Bonacci, Margaret Leo and Lena Scavo. The funeral was held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. John C. O'Bell, pastor and Deacon Edward Casey. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Michael Cortino, Sean Price, Thomas Ruddy, John Ruddy, Brett Kelly, Brody Kelly and Colton Kelly.
