Joseph Cassaro, Sr., 81, of Stroudsburg, PA, and formerly of Carbondale, PA, died Sunday, May 4, 2025 at Brookmont Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Effort, PA, after an illness. He is survived by his wife, the former Carol J. Gill. They were married on July 1, 1972
Born March 22, 1944 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Patrick, Sr. and Antoinette Luparella Cassaro.
Joe was a 1962 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School in Carbondale, and worked for his family's business Cassaro Manufacturing, Carbondale. After the death of his father, he and his brother Pat became the owners and operators until its closing in 1994. It was at his business that he and Carol met.
Joe and Carol later owned and operated Antoinette's Restaurant in Carbondale for 10 years before retiring to Florida. He served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and was a former member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale. Joe was a former member of the Carbondale Chapter of UNICO and served as chapter president from 1976-1977. He always enjoyed poker nights with friends and loved his Philadelphia Eagles, Go Birds!
The family extends its appreciation to all of Joe's caregivers over the past couple of years for their kind and compassionate care.
He is also survived by four children: Roslyn Nolan of Carbondale, PA, Joseph Cassaro, Jr. and wife, Brenda of Carbondale, PA, Michele Taylor and husband, Jeffrey of Long Pond, PA, and Antoinette Cassaro and husband, Korey Cain of East Stroudsburg, PA; seven grandchildren: Joshua Nolan, Jayme Nolan, Joseph Cassaro, III., Gabriella Pawluck and husband, Anthony, Shawn Taylor, Riley Cain and Donavyn Cain; one brother: Patrick Cassaro, Jr. of Carbondale, PA; one aunt; several nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a brother: Sebastian "Sam" Cassaro.
The funeral was held Friday, May 9, 2025 from Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, PA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, PA, celebrated by Rev. Seth Wasnock, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Joshua Nolan, Jayme Nolan, Joseph Cassaro, III., Donavyn Cain, Korey Cain and Anthony Pawluck.
Viewing hours were held Thursday, May 8, 2025 from 4-7 p.m.
