Joseph J. Booths, age 89, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA., died Tuesday afternoon, March 8, 2011 at the Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA., following a short illness. His wife was the former Mary Ladomirak who died December 16, 2004. Born July 5, 1921 in Carbondale, PA., he was the last surviving child of the late Joseph, Sr. and Agnes (Zygmantovich) Booths. He was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked as a coal miner and retired from Farview State Hospital, Waymart, PA., as a guard. He also did home remodeling work on the side. He enjoyed bowling and his annual fishing trip to Canada which he has not missed in 30 years. His greatest joy in life was his grandchildren who will dearly miss him. He is survived by one daughter-in-law: Barbara Booths of Carbondale, PA.; one grandson: Joseph Anthony Booths of Carbondale, PA.; one granddaughter: Monica Grace Booths of Carbondale, PA.; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son: Joseph J. Booths, III.; one brother: Frank Booths; seven sisters: Blanche Levandoski, Jane Hollarn, Stella Earyes, Mamie Lapka, Agnes Kraft, Josephine Saldonis and Nellie Ventura. The funeral was held Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 10:00 AM from the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place at Terrace Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. William D. Campbell, assistant pastor. Entombment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Friends called Friday, March 11, 2011 from 5-8 PM. Pallbearers: Andrew Gregorwicz, Andy Gregorwicz, Tim Dench, Jack Kinniry, Tom Kinniry and Steve Kinniry.
