Joseph M. Artone, 87, of Greenfield Township, PA, died Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA after being struck ill at home. His wife the former Phyllis Payne preceded him in death. Born in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Carlo and Josephine Cerra Artone. Joe attended Carbondale public schools and served in the Army with the 82nd Airborne Division, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a machinist at Hendrick Manufacturing, Carbondale. Joe was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting. He also liked going to the casino's and reading. He is survived by three brothers: Carmine Artone and wife Carol of Front Royal, VA, Anthony Artone and Carlo James Artone both of Greenfield Township, PA; several nieces and nephews including, Beverly Jane Hordesky and husband Eugene, Audrey Vasquez and husband Joseph and Andrew Paye and wife Linda; several great nieces and nephews including, Joseph Lapiers. He was preceded in death by a brother: Samuel Artone. Private funeral services were held Wednesday, February 10, 2016 from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, PA. Interment, Union Dale Cemetery, Union Dale, PA.
