John Leon Waterman, age 71, of Carbondale, PA., died Sunday, January 30, 2010 at home. His longtime companion is Barbara Palubniak of Mayfield, PA. Born September 11, 1939 in Scranton, PA., he was the son of the late Robert Waterman and Helen (Zualauskas) Connor. He was a graduate of North Scranton High School and the New York City Police Academy. He was a policeman for the New York City Police Department for 15 years and a Detective for 5 years. He was the owner and operator of American Pools in Carbondale for 30 years. He served in the Marine Corps. and enjoyed car racing, loved animals and was an avid Lionel train collector. He is survived by one brother: Jody Connor and wife Laura of Carbondale, PA.; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one sister: Patricia Connor. A funeral service was held Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 8:00 PM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, PA. Interment, with military honors took place Friday, February 4, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Friends called Thursday, February 2, 2011 from 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations were sent to the family.
