Obituary

John J. Chip Washburn, Sr., 73, of Carbondale, PA., died Sunday morning, June 28, 2009 at the University of Pennsylvana Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. He was the husband of the former Emily Chadwick. They were married on July 3, 1958Born March 7, 1936 in Carbondale, PA., he was the son of the late Charles and Mildred (Butville) Washburn. He was formerly employed by the D H Railroad and later became the grounds keeping superintendent for Elkview Country Club at Crystal Lake, PA., the Honesdale Golf Club, Honesdale, PA. and retired from Sleepy Hollow Golf Course in Greenfield Township, PA. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.He was an avid bowler at Idle Hour Lanes, golfed with the Senior Golf League at Sleepy Hollow, hunted and loved attending the St. Rose Church Bingo. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed by his family. His many friends will also miss his signature greeting of How arrre ya.He is survived by four children: Susan Smith and companion Bill Lewis of Forest City, PA., Jean Bucksbee and husband Lee of Greenfield Township, PA., Ann Jarrow and husband Joseph of Lenoxville, PA. and John Washburn, Jr. and companion Ayanna Kelley of Equinunk, PA.; five grandchildren: Carrie Snyder, Kristin Repchick, Joseph and Nicholas Jarrow and Kaitlyn Washburn; one great granddaughter: Jaclyn Peters; one brother: Thomas Washburn of Texas; a sister-in-law: Shirley Washburn of Thompson, PA.; several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by two brothers: Joseph and Charles Washburn, Jr.; one sister: Rosemary Washburn.The funeral was held Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 8:30 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by the Rev. William D. Campbell, senior priest. Entombment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Michael Krisler, Nick Petrilak, Tim DeCicco, Richard Grushinski, Ted Merrigan, Charles Washburn, William Chadwick, Jr. and John Chadwick, Jr. Friends called Wednesday, July 1, 2009 from 2-4 6-9 PM.Memorial Contributions may be made in Chip's name to the American Cancer Society, 712 N.
