John E. “Jack” Walsh, Jr., 74, of Newton, NJ, died Thursday, September 27, 2026, at Newton Medical Center, Newton, NJ, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born June 15, 1952 in Glen Ridge, NJ, he was the son of the late John E. Walsh, Sr. and the late Patricia Jones Walsh.
Jack was a 1970 graduate of Boonton High School, Boonton, NJ, and later served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS McCandless having received a National Defense Service Medal. Prior to his retirement, Jack had been a self-employed carpet installer for many years. Jack enjoyed the freedom of the open road on his motorcycle and playing the drums.
He is survived by his wife: Mary Ellen Piper of Newton, NJ; three children: Elizabeth Gatto and husband, Joe of Rockaway, NJ, Jamie Walsh and companion, Shane Hunsicker of Belvidere, NJ, and John E. Walsh, III. of Allentown, PA; three grandchildren: twins, Anthony and Vinny Coniglio and Jerrica Gatto; three sisters: Bonnie Bay and husband, Glenn of Union Dale, PA, Eileen Ruffolo of Boonton, NJ and Tracey Walsh of Union Dale, PA; one brother: Tim Walsh and wife, Lynda of Stroudsburg, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 4, 2026 from Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, PA. A viewing will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. and a funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. by Rev. William McGinty, pastor of the Trinity Episcopal Church, Carbondale, PA. Family and friends are encouraged to share memories of Jack during the service and military honors will conclude. An additional memorial service will be held September 12, 2026 at the Clinton United Methodist Church, 12 Halstead Street, Clinton NJ at 1:00pm by Rev. Dr. Drew Dyson.
