John Searles age 79, of P.O Box 178, 231 Lake Boulevard, Clifford died early Wednesday morning, August 21, 2002 at the Marian Community Hospital, Carbondale. His wife is the former Shirley Korjack.
Born November 12, 1922 in County Cork, Ireland. He was the son of the late Edward and Hanna (Bird) Searles.
He was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church, Forest City and its church committee for 13 years. He helped the 4-H Club, the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He was a former councilman for Vandling borough for well over 8 years. He was a member of the Clifford Township Volunteer Fire Company and spent several years as a volunteer for their annual picnic. He raised goats and always entered them in county fairs and won many Blue Ribbons for his efforts.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be missed greatly.
He is survived by two daughters: Patricia Searles and Carrie Searles both of Clifford, PA.; one son: Edward Searles of Tompkinsville, PA.; 2 Grandchildren; numerous relatives in Ireland; 1 nephew in New Jersey
He was preceded in death by two brothers: George and Edward Searles; one sister: Violet Bird
The funeral was held Saturday, August 24, 2002 at 1:00 pm from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home, Dundaff and Main Streets, Clifford, with Rev. Gabriel Liew of the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church officiating. Interment, Willow View Cemetery, Clifford.
A viewing was held Friday, August 23, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9.
