John J. "Tuggy" Scalise, 96, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA, died Sunday morning, August 7, 2022 at Aventura at Creekside, Carbondale.
Born May 13, 1926 in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Giacomo "Jake" and Maria Teresa Scalzo Scalise.
Tuggy was an Army veteran of World War II, having served with the 2nd Infantry Division in the European Theatre. He later retired from the local garment industry where he worked in the cutting department. Tuggy was a devout Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale, where he was an usher and active with many of the church's yearly social events.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Creekside and Dr. Frank Moro for their kind and compassionate care.
He is survived by one sister: Pauline Cerminaro of Carbondale, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Anthony and Dominick Scalise; and five sisters: Mary Cianflone, Rose Molinaro, Carmella Viney, Carrie Fitzpatrick and Angela Galati.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, PA, celebrated by Rev. Seth Wasnak, pastor. Interment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: David Mussari, Patrick Cerminaro, Jr., James Cerminaro and Jason Parise.
A viewing was held Thursday morning, August 11, 2022 from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. at the church.
