Obituary

John T. Burnett, Ph.D., of Springbrook Township, PA., formerly of Washington, D.C.; died Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Mercy Hospice, Scranton, PA. Born in Scranton, PA., son was the son of the late John E. and Grace (Walsh) Burnett. He was a 1975 graduate of North Pocono High School, and earned a B.S.W. from Marywood College in 1979. He earned masters and doctoral degrees in theology from The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC. John was a professor in the theology department at Georgetown University, Washington, DC. His favorite class was The Problem of God, where he taught students how to approach reconciling their faith with realities of science and life. In addition, he worked in IT support at Serco, a data management company in Reston, Virginia. John enjoyed military history, especially the study of World War I and World war II. He also enjoyed boating on Lake Wallenpaupack. He is survived by two sisters: Grace Sosik of the Lehigh Valley, PA. and Mary Bogart and husband Len of Moscow, PA.; two brothers: Joseph Burnett and wife Celia of Covington Township, PA. and Thomas Burnett of Springbrook Township, PA.; seven nieces and nephews; a grandnephew. He was preceded in death by a brother in law: Scott Sosik. The funeral was held Monday, June 14, 2010 at 9:30 AM from the Snowdon Funeral Home, 401 Church Street, Moscow, PA., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 220 Church Street, Moscow, con-celebrated by Rev. J. Patrick Quinn, T.O.R., Rev. Robert Simon, Rev. Eugene Gunning, Rev. Jeffrey Walsh, Deacon John Franceschelli and Deacon Michael McCarthy. Interment, St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends called Sunday from 5-9 PM at Snowdon Funeral Home. Memorial contributions were made to Smile Train at Smiletrain.org Arrangement were under the direction of the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
