Obituary

John J. Onofrey, 85, of Clarks Summit, PA, died Monday, November 20, 2023 at the Regional Hospital, Scranton, PA, surrounded by his family. His wife of 65 years is the former Marion Louise Donalovich Onofrey. They were married February 2, 1958.

Born on July 12, 1938 in Taylor, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Caroline Onofrey.

John was a 1956 graduate of Taylor High School, lettering in Baseball all four years. Prior to his retirement in 1989, John worked for the state. He was a member of Our Lady of Snows Church, Clarks Summit.

An avid outdoorsman, he was a member of many outdoor organizations. He was very patriotic and enjoyed hunting and fishing, traveling out west on AMTRAK trains, boating for 35 years on Lake Wallenpaupack, sitting on the porch, watching his YouTube shows and westerns.

He is survived by two sons: John Mark Onofrey and wife, Michele and Kenneth James Onofrey; three daughters: Lynn Klemick and husband, Gib, and Judith Gillette and husband, David, Amy Wojcik and husband, Walter, two grandsons: John Thomas Onofrey and wife, Kacie and Zane Onofrey; one great granddaughter: Kohyn; nieces, nephews and his beloved dog, Garrett.

He was preceded in death by a son: David Onofrey; a brother: Joseph Onofrey and two sisters: Catherine Gracik and Ruth Mary Trakimas.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Snows Church, 301 S. State Street, Clarks Summit, PA, celebrayed by Msgr. Joseph Quinn. Entombment was in the family private mausoleum at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, PA.

Pallbearers: Lynn Klemick, Ken Onofrey, Gilbert Klemick, Walter Wojcik, David Gillette, David Trakimas and Dan Gillette.

A viewing was held Saturday, November 25, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 South State Street, Clarks Summit, PA.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations were sent in John's name to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Township, Pa 18411 or Pheasants & Quails Forever, 1783 Buerkle Circle, St. Paul, MN 55110.
