John P. McGurrin, 71, of Union Dale, PA., died Monday evening, February 15, 2010 at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton, PA. Born October 6, 1938 in Scranton, PA., he was the son of the late James and Margaret (Reilly) McGurrin. He was a graduate of Holy Rosary High School in Scranton, PA and was of the Catholic faith. He was an Army veteran and prior to his retirement, he was a computer programmer and wrote several computer programs for IBM, The Boeing Company, McDonnell Douglas. He enjoyed watching television and would always lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He is survived by one brother: Michael McGurrin and wife Mary of Peckville, PA.; one sister: Ann Claire Comasco of St. Louis, MO.; one brother-in-law: Daniel Cahill of Union Dale, PA.; nephew and caretaker: Ronald McWhirr of Union Dale, PA.; several nieces and nephews; grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother: William McGurrin; one sister: Catherine Cahill.; one niece: Theresa McWhirr. The funeral was held Saturday, February 20, 2010, at 9:15 AM from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Pius X Church, Route 106, Royal, PA., celebrated by Rev. Albert Leonard, administrator. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton, PA. Friends called Friday, February 19, 2010, from 7-9 PM. Pallbearers: Ron McWhirr, Daniel McWhirr, Chuck Cahill, Dan Dailey, Jordan Davis and Carl Camasco.
