John P. "Slam" Mazur, 70, Carbondale, died Saturday, November 9, 2024 at home. He is survived by his wife, the former Karen Gebert Wagner, they were married for 16 years but shared 34 wonderful years together.
Born October 30, 1954 in Peckville, PA, he was the son of the late Stanley "Slam" and Lorraine Howannas Mazur.
Slam was raised in Peckville and was a graduate of Valley View High School. He was employed by Sugarman's delivering appliances and then as a corrections officer at the Lackawanna County Prison. Slam enjoyed riding around on his 4-wheeler occasionally even showing up at his grandsons' practices just to check in. He loved his grandchildren dearly and was a big supporter at all their sporting events. Slam will be remembered as a loyal friend to many.
He is survived by two step children: Lindsay Yetter and husband, Mike and Joe Wagner and wife, Sabrina all of Carbondale, PA; five grandchildren: Eric, Bryden, Connor, Joey, and Olivia; brother-in-law: John Gebert and wife, Connie, sister-in-law: Linda Mauro and husband, Jerry, who he considered a brother, and sister-in-law: Kathy Brown; several nieces and nephews, and loyal friends.
Private funeral services will be held from Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
