John P. Marley, 82, of Carbondale, PA., died Tuesday afternoon, October 4, 2005 at the Marian Community Hospital, Carbondale.
Born October 3, 1923 in Jermyn, PA, he was the son of the late Michael B. and Margaret Forbes Marley.
He formerly resided in Kearny, New Jersey and later resided at Paupack Lake Estates in Hawley, PA. for 22 years before moving to Carbondale two years ago.
He was a Navy Veteran who served in World War II and earned the American Theatre Medal, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal (1 Star) and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He was a member and former commander of the Wilson-Kelch American Legion Post 311 in Hawley.
Prior to his retirement, he worked for Prudential Insurance Company in Newark, New Jersey for 21 years and later worked as a security guard at Paupack Lake Estates and was responsible for the local fishery of the lake.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a loving father and brother who will be dearly missed.
He is survived by two daughters: Faye Tyerech of Brick, NJ. and Virginia Flynn of Hackensack, NJ.; two sisters: Nora Risposta of Kearny, NJ. and Margaret Maida of Lyndhurst, NJ.
He was preceded in death by one son: John Marley; two brothers: Michael and William Marley.
A blessing service was held Friday, October 7, 2005 at 9:30 am in the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home, Inc., Farview 41st Streets, Carbondale, with the Rev. William D. Campbell, assistant pastor of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, officiating. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
