Obituary

John J. Catanzaro, age 58, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA., died Saturday, October 18, 2008, at the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, PA. His wife of 34 years is the former Deborah Keenan. Born June 15, 1950 in Carbondale, PA., he was the son of the late Anthony, Sr., and Mary (Cerra) Catanzaro. He was a 1970 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School in Carbondale and retired from Clarks Summit State Hospital after 32 years. He took pride in taking his children and grandchildren to the park, and spending time with them. A fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers, he enjoyed singing and music, bowling, fairs, amusement parks and retirement. He had a heart of gold and his many kindnesses will always be remembered. He was truly devoted to his wife Deborah, she was the love of his life and best friend. He is survived by three daughters: Annette Catanzaro of Fenton, DE., Tammy Prebich husband James of East Berlin, PA. and Michelle Catanzaro of Carbondale, PA.; five grandchildren: Alexa, James, Jr., Archie, Jr., Alyssa and Daniel; one sister: Josephine Calafut of Carbondale, PA.; two brothers: Anthony Catanzaro, Jr. of Dickson City, PA. and Joseph Catanzaro wife Judy of Delaware Water Gap, PA.; mother-in-law: Frieda Keenan; sister-in-law: Karen Webb; brother's-in-law: Richard Spreen and Gary Keenan all of Florida; goddaughter niece: Maria Apolinario of Archbald, PA.; great niece: Katie Apolinario of Archbald, PA.; many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by one sister: Kathryn Catanzaro who died in 1985. The funeral was held Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at 8:30 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Farview 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Patrick's Church, Olyphant, PA., celebrated by the Rev. Thomas M. Muldowney, pastor. Entombment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Andrew Prebich, James Prebich, Jr., Anthony Catanzaro, Michael Prebich, Archie Seth, Jr., Daniel Seth and David Catanzaro. Friends called Tuesday, October 21, 2008 from 2-4 7-9. pm.
