John J. Cardamone, Sr., age 84, of Carbondale, PA., died Wednesday afternoon, March 5, 2008 at the Marian Community Hospital, Carbondale.
His wife of 63 years is the former Rose Vadala.
Born May 12, 1923 in Pittsburgh, PA., he was the son of the late Frank and Theresa (Shedel) Cardamone.
He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church in Carbondale. He attended Mayfield High School and worked in the breaker and mines. He also worked as a construction worker for the IBEW Laborers Union Local 130 in Scranton, PA. He was a Navy veteran serving in World War II and was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus where he was a past faithful navigator. He served in the Knights of Columbus Honor Guard for Pope John Paul II. He was an avid card player and a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed.
He is survived by one daughter: Carol husband Raymond Smith of Browndale, PA.; two sons: John J., Jr. wife Joyce Cardamone of Carbondale, PA. and Eugene wife Sharon Cardamone of Jermyn, PA.; two brothers: Frank and Patrick Cardamone, both of Mayfield, PA.; five grandsons: John E. Cardamone, Eugene Cardamone, Joseph Smith, Jeremy Yadlosky and David Smith; five granddaughters: Laurie Cardamone, Christina Thornton; Nicole Bridgen, Sharon Cardamone and Quantalyse Smith; three great grandsons: John Z., John and Christopher; three great granddaughters: Soren, Emily and Maya Grace; Several Nieces Nephews. He was preceded in death by two daughters: Rose Ann Ann Marie Cardamone; two brothers: Anthony and Vincent Cardamone; one sister: Victoria Surace. The funeral was held Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 9:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Farview 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Ronald Hughes, assistant pastor. Interment with Military Honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
