Born October 10, 1933 in Reggio di Calabria, Italy, he was son of the late Agatha Barreca Ravenda and the step son of the late Paul Ravenda.

John, his wife and their young son immigrated to Carbondale from Italy in 1960. He first worked in the local garment industry and later for the Lander Company, Binghamton, NY, and then at the Chamberlain Corporation, Scranton, PA. In the early 1970's, he established John's Shoe Repair in Carbondale, and for over 40 years he was able to perfect his talent with leather products. John was a self-taught repairman in the areas of construction, electrical and automotive. His handy work lives on in all of his children's homes.

He is survived by three children: Paul Barreca of Carbondale, PA, Ann Hachan and husband, Richard of Carbondale, PA, and Dr. Agatha Proper, DC. and husband, John of Newport, NH; five grandsons: Richard Hachan and fiancee, Rosie Steen, Christopher Hachan, Gabriel, Blaise and Marius Edwards.

The funeral was held Monday, October 3, 2022 from Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, PA, celebrated by Rev. Seth Wasnak, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.

Pallbearers: his five grandson's: Richard Hachan, Christopher Hachan, Gabriel Edwards, Blaise Edwards and Marius Edwards
