Obituary

John W. Jack Atkinson, 70, of Lenoxville, PA. and formerly of Factoryville, PA., died Friday morning, April 21, 2006 at the VNA Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA. He was the husband of the former Adelaide (Scottie) Welles. Born April 7, 1936 in Factoryville, PA., he was the son of the late John Clement and Bessie(Stewart) Atkinson. He was a member of the Lenoxville United Methodist Church, Lenoxville and served in the Pennsylvania National Guard 109th Infantry. He was a current member of the Nicholson Masonic Lodge 438 and a former member of the Factoryville Masonic Lodge 341. He was a member of and played trumpet in the Lenoxville Community Band, the Jolly Seniors Band, the Shrine Brass Band and the 109th Infantry Band. He was a volunteer fireman and EMT and was a lifetime member of the Factoryville Volunteer Fire Company. He served on various committees at the Factoryville United Methodist Church and was activly involved in many community affairs. He owned and operated the Jack Atkinson Fuel Oil Company for over 25 years. He was a wonderful husband and a loving father and grandfather who dearly loved his family and dog, Fergie. He is survived by two daughters: Heather Atkinson of Oklahoma City, OK. and Mary (Libby) Petrini of Jessup, PA.; four grandchildren Billy and Neil Montgomery and Melina and Bobby Petrini; one brother: Stewart Atkinson of Clarks Summit, PA.; Numerous Nieces and Nephews He was preceded in death by one brother: Ronald Atkinson A memorial service was held Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at 11:00 AM in the Lenoxville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Peg Knapich, pastor of the Lenoxville and Clifford United Methodist Church's, officiating. Friends called Monday, April 24, 2006 from 5 to 8 PM at the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home, Dundaff and Main Streets, Clifford, PA. Masonic services took place at 8:00 PM. Cremation took place at the Maple Hill Crematory, Archbald, PA. Memorial Contributions may be made in Jacks name to VNA Hospice of Lackawanna County, 301 Delaware Avenue, Olyphant, PA. 18447 or Monetary contributions may be given to the family to be forwarded by them to the local dialysis unit that cared for Jack.
