Obituary

We sadly announce the passing of Joanne L. Zick, 84, of Kingsley, PA, on Sunday, September 24, 2023.

Joanne grew up on Zickview Farms in Kingsley. She was a graduate of Harford High School and Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing. After graduation, Joanne traveled the country as a registered nurse working in New Jersey, California, Alaska and Vermont. Joanne was able to make lifelong friends in these locations, and enjoyed extensive travel adventures with those friends during her time away. She later returned home to the family farm.

While home, Joanne was able to take care of her parents, assist her brother on the farm raising livestock and spending time with her nieces and nephews. Joanne took great enjoyment in growing a productive vegetable garden, mowing the lawns on her favorite tractor, and tending to her flowers in the Summer. She also enjoyed feeding and watching birds throughout the winter months in her sunroom.

One of Joanne's greatest loves was talking on the phone with her friends and family. She was diligent about checking in regularly with people she had not been able to see in person for many decades, and also those friends that she had just met with the previous week. Road trips taken by her nieces and nephews were often filled with long conversations with Joanne that ran the gamut of topics: family updates, careers, politics, weather and of course the local gas prices of wherever you may be. She had the "gift of gab" just like her siblings, and she was happy to share that with all of her friends and family. Joanne will be missed by all who were able to spend time with her.

Joanne is survived by her sister, Judy Mitchell; sister-in-law, Carol Zick; nephews; Matthew Mitchell (Elissa), Scott Mitchell (Despina), Brandon Zick (Erin), Bristol Zick (Diana), Jeffrey Zick (Ellen), nieces; Bridget Zick Sherring (Benjamin), and Christina Zick Dumitrov (Bogdan), as well as 13 great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William F. Zick and Elizabeth Zick, her brother James W. Zick, brother-in-law, Bill Mitchell, and her niece Officer Olivia Zick.

The family is forever thankful to her wonderful, live-in caretaker, for providing love, laughter, and companionship in her last chapter. The family would also like to thank the incredible staff at Barnes Kasson Hospital in Susquehanna. The true care, compassion and grace that was shown to Joanne in her last days is unmatched.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. from Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA.
