Joanne Swartz, 91, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA, died Monday, June 7, 2021 at the Carbondale Nursing Center, after an illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ezra R. Swartz on August 23, 2001. Born November 20, 1929 in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Murvington and Viola Cesario Ort. Joanne was a graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and had been employed by the Gentex Corporation in Simpson, her entire working career. She had been a member of the First United Methodist Church, Carbondale. Joanne was known for her strong personality and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by two sons: Ezra Swartz of Carbondale, PA and Stephen Swartz of Scranton, PA; two daughters: Barbara Shust of Carbondale, PA and Susan Swartz of South Bridge, MA; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two sisters: Janice Granville and Corrine Blake; and two brothers: Murvington and Harold Ort. As per her request, private services took place at the Sandy Banks Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Arrangements were entrusted to the Edward A.
