Joann Wallace Pollits, 88, of Carbondale, PA, died Friday, May 19, 2023 at home. She was the beloved wife of the late Lucas "Lukie" Pollits, who died January 20, 2016. They had been married for 57 wonderful years.

Born June 25, 1934 in Simpson, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sophie Zukowski Wallace.

Joann was a graduate of Fell High School, Simpson, and Moses Taylor Hospital School of Nursing, Scranton. She began her career as a registered nurse at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, and later as a visiting nurse in Scranton. She later worked at the Carbondale General Hospital and retired from Marian Community Hospital, Carbondale. Joann was a devout member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale.

Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and was fondly called "Memom". She faithfully watched Jeopardy every night and enjoyed the Polkas. Joann entertained many people with her Facebook videos that her son, Jay would take.

She is survived by three children: LuAnn Elizabeth Casey and husband, John of Bensalem, PA, Joseph Jay Pollits and wife, Mary Beth of Greenfield Township, PA, and Lucas Jon Pollits and Dawn Rogan of Browndale, PA; four grandchildren: Lindsey Ann Casey, Cassandra Joann Fluck and husband, Andrew, Emily Maria Pollits and Jason Lucas Pollits; one great-granddaughter: Lennon Drew Fluck; one sister: Delores Falvo and husband, Victor of Lake Alden, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter: Mary Frances.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, PA, concelebrated by Rev. Seth Wasnock, pastor, and Rev. Joseph Sitko. Entombment, St. Mary the Assumption Cemetery, Montdale, PA.

Pallbearers: Lindsey Casey, Emily Pollits, Cassandra Fluck, Jason Pollits, Andrew Fluck and Colten Shaw.

A viewing was held Wednesday, May 24, 2023 from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. at the church.
