Gerald "Jerry" Shaffer, 75, of Carbondale, PA, died Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA, after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Pauline Tolerico.

Born June 17, 1947 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Dale and Lucille Kennedy Shaffer.

Jerry was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and was certified as an auto mechanic. He entered into business with his father at Dale's Service Station, on the corner of Main Street and 8th Avenue in Carbondale. He later operated the business as Jerry's Service Station and Pro Muffler for many years. Prior to his retirement, he was employed at NAPA Auto Parts in Carbondale, where he could be seen daily delivering parts to the local garages.

Jerry was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carbondale. He enjoyed traveling, especially cruises and was very creative in making sculptures from old muffler parts. He will be fondly remembered for his outgoing personality and his joke telling.

He is survived by a son: Jerry Shaffer and wife, Kimmie of Carbondale, PA; four grandchildren: Matthew, Katie, Raymond and Karmella; and three nephews: Thomas, Jeffrey and Darren Lombardi.

He was also preceded in death by a brother: Reed Shaffer; and a sister: Marilyn Lombardi.

The funeral was held Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, PA, with Rev. Fred Snyder, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.

Friends called Friday, January 27, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday, January 28, 2023 from 10-11 a.m.
