Jeffrey L. Barney, 67, of Clifford Township, PA, died Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA. He was preceded in death by his wife the former, Gloria Bossick, on June 5, 1989. Born December 2, 1954 in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Deanna Barney Counterman. Jeff was a lifelong resident of Clifford Township, and operated Barney Recycling, Inc. He loved the simple pleasures of life especially rides on his motorcycle and country living. As a true recycler, he could fix just about anything that was broken or repurpose it for another use. Jeff was someone you could count on for help at any hour of the day. He was a social member of the Lenox VFW. Jeff was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be deeply missed. He is survived by three daughters: Gloria Maddage of Carbondale, PA, Francine Barney of Jermyn, PA, and Mary Brown and husband, Shawn of Clifford Township, PA; two sisters: Winona Kashif of Virginia and Teri Counterman of Carbondale, PA; four brothers: Daniel Barney of Carbondale, PA, David Counterman of Union Dale, PA, Phillip Counterman of Honesdale, PA and Clancy Counterman of Lake Ariel, PA; eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a son: Darryl Barney; a grandson: Joseph Maddage; and a brother: Scott Counterman. The funeral was held Monday, August 22, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA, with Rev. Bonnie Resseguie, officiating. Cremation followed and interment was held at the Willow View Cemetery, Clifford, PA.
