Jean Rose Van Nort, 94, of Carbondale, PA., died peacefully Saturday morning, May 29, 2010 at the Carbondale Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family who were the joy in her life. She would have celebrated her 95th birthday on July 4th. She was the wife of the late James W. Van Nort, who died August 23, 1987. Born in Carbondale, PA., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Nameda) Lucas. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. She attended Carbondale schools and at a young age she prided working in the Anthracite Hotel and St. Rose Rectory as a cook. She enjoyed baking, cooking and the polkas. She also liked sharing stories of her younger days. The family would like to extend special thanks to her personal home aid, Terri Barney, as well as Dr. Bekele and the staffs of the Carbondale Nursing Home and Southern Care Hospice for their great care and compassion. She is survived by one daughter: Joan Alampi of Greenfield Township, PA., who was her personal caregiver until the end; one son: John Van Nort and wife Eileen of Browndale, PA.; one brother: Anthony Lucas and wife Anna of Scranton, PA.; 8 grandchildren: Cindy Ames and husband Bill of Moscow, PA., Charlene Graziano and husband Joseph of Carbondale, PA., Jean Castel of Monticello, NY., Dr. Joseph Van Nort and wife Cindy of North Carolina, Dr. James Van Nort and wife Abbey of Kentucky, Robert Van Nort of Carbondale, PA., Crystal Alampi-Fecina and husband Franco of Greenfield Township, PA. and Sheila Van Nort-Seliga and husband Jason of Jermyn, PA.; 13 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren; 1 great great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons: Joseph Van Nort, Sr. of Carbondale, PA. and infant James Van Nort, Jr.; one daughter: Jean Marie Piccioli and husband Stephen of Carbondale, PA.; two brothers: Adam and Michael Lucas both of Scranton, PA.; three sisters: Josephine Wallace of Simpson, PA., Jenna and Anna Lucas both of Krakow, Poland. The funeral was held Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 10:00 AM from the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place at Terrace Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Msgr. David L. Tressler, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Friends called Thursday, June 3, 2010 from 9:00 - 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Pallbearers: Dr. Joseph Van Nort, Dr. James Van Nort, Robert Van Nort, Franco Fecina, Joseph Graziano and William Ames.
