Janice E. Totsky, 93, of Carbondale, PA, died Saturday, November 25, 2023 at home. She was preceded in death be her husband, Lawrence A. Totsky on November 26, 1984.

Born September 17, 1930 in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth Ahern Malone.

Janice was raised in Dickson City and graduated from Dickson City High School. She later resided in Archbald before moving to Carbondale after her marriage. Early in her career she had been employed at Daystrom in Archbald, where she met her husband and later worked in the St. Rose School cafeteria, Kelly's Drug Store, Roselle Department Store and for Doctors McNabb and Mogerman. She retired from Penn Star Bank in Carbondale, where she was their telephone operator.

Janice was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, and a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Cottage Hose Company and the Knights of Columbus. In retirement, Janice and her lady friends were avid walkers at the Carbondale Area High School and she also enjoyed activities at the Carbondale YMCA. Janice was a cat lover and always cared for any strays. Her proudest role in life was that of a mom and grammie and she will be deeply missed by her family.

The family would like to thank Theresa Micknick, PA, for her many years compassionate care. Special thanks is also extended to nurse, Judy Luongo and staff at Home Health Care Hospice for making Janice's final days comforting and peaceful.

She is survived by one daughter: Sharon Prebich and husband, Philip of Mayfield, PA; one grandson: Scott Prebich and wife, Cathy of Clarks Summit, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters: June O'Dell, Lois Barrett, and infant Monica.

The funeral was held Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church Street, Carbondale, PA, celebrated by Rev. Joseph Mosley, senior priest. Interment, St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, Archbald, PA.

Pallbearers: Mark Totsky, Joseph Totsky, Danny Totsky, Stephen Liuzzo, Sean Durkin and Michael Cino.

A viewing was held Wednesday, November 29, 2023 from 9:00 - 10:00 A.M. at the church.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
