Obituary

Janet O. Wagner, 84, of Carbondale, PA, died Tuesday morning, August 31, 2021 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the widow of Joseph J. Wagner Sr., who died Dec. 1, 2012. At the time of his death, they were married for 57 years. Born March 5, 1937, in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late George and Olive Tregaskis Barnicott. Janet was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and Wayne Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She had been employed as a nurse's aide and later worked for Cienna Sportswear, Honesdale. Janet retired at the age of 75 from Tri-County Human Services as the supervisor of their mobile workforce department. It was a job she loved and was very proud of the work she did and the friends she made along the way. She was the first female ambulance driver for the Cottage Hose Company. Janet was of the Presbyterian faith and had most recently belonged to the Jessup Presbyterian Church, where she had served as a deacon. Her life revolved around her large family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered for her generosity and selflessness. Her gifts of love and kindness were extended to everyone she encountered in her life. Special thanks to Hospice of the Sacred Heart and Paula Fringuelotti, true friend and nurse for Janet. She is survived by her children, Karen Wagner Mazur and husband, John, Carbondale, PA; Kathy Brown and partner, Ralph Perry, Carbondale, PA; Patrick Battle and wife, Michelle, Montdale, PA; William Battle and wife, Dawn, San Diego, CA.; and Jennifer Smith and husband, Kyle, Scotrun, PA; grandchildren, Lindsay and husband, Mike; Joseph and wife, Sabrina; Kaitlyn and husband, David; Emily, John, Patrick, Allyson, Jessica, Kelsea, Rachael, Daniel, Zoey, Matthew, Brandon, Abigayle, Mason, Brianne, Valarie, Nolan; Chad and wife, Sara; and Jason; great-grandchildren, Eric, Bryden, Connor, Joseph, Olivia, Lily, Sadie and Ryder; a sister, Georgia Kosiak, Hernando, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph J. Wagner Jr.; a daughter, Karen S. Lynady; and a baby brother, Robert Barnicott. The funeral was held Friday, September 3, 2021 at 1 p.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 89 Farview St., Carbondale, PA, with Rev. Art Yetter, pastor of the Cortez United Methodist Church and Sarah Mountain, chaplain of Hospice of the Sacred Heart, officiating. Interment, Willow View Cemetery, Clifford, PA.
