Janet McCann, 87, formerly of Washington Street, Carbondale, PA, died Sunday, January 13, 2019 while a resident of the Forest City Nursing Home, Forest City, PA.
Born on September 6, 1931 and raised in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late James and Evelyn (Clark) McCann.
Janet graduated in 1951 from St. Rose High School, Carbondale. Prior to her retirement, she was employed for 31 years as a clerk at Newberry's and also worked as a secretary for the Lackawanna County Area Agency on Aging for an additional nine years. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Over the years, Janet made many friends and had a wonderful sense of humor. Janet also loved baseball and became a stanch Mets fan. Janet would like to be remembered for her kindness and thoughtfulness to others.
Janet was an extremely loving and generous person and will be sorely missed by family and friends. She was very devoted to her family, especially her nephews, Jim and Mike.
Janet's family expresses appreciation to the Forest City Nursing Home and Personal Care Facility for their care and compassion given to Janet during her residency over the past several years.
She is survived by a sister-In-Law: Joanne McCann of Pottsville, PA; two nephews: James McCann and wife, Kim of Manassas, VA and Michael McCann and wife, Clarissa, and their two children, Benjamin and Alissa of Peoria, AZ.; In addition, she is survived by a number of cousins and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her three brothers: William and James McCann, and Michael McCann, who died in infancy.
The funeral was held Friday, January 18, 2019 from the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place at Terrace Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Seth Wasnak, assistant pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: James McCann and Michael McCann, nephews.
