Jane S. Tompkins, 79, of South Gibson, PA, died Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Wilkes-Barre, PA, after an illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Rev. Lynn H. Tompkins on August 12, 2020. Born May 15, 1942 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Grace Nichols Griffin. Jane had been employed by the Mountain View School District as a school bus driver and later as a teacher's aide. They were jobs she thoroughly enjoyed as she loved being around children. She was an over 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, 258 Sunshine Chapter, Thompson, PA. A truly Christian women, Jane was devoted to her Lord and Savior. She had perfect attendance for 16 years at Sunday school and rarely missed church on Sunday as an adult. She cherished every moment she spent with her family and she was an extremely proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a talented baker and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by four sons: Kenneth Tompkins and wife, Judy of Oneonta, NY, Wayne Tompkins and wife, Barbara of Athens, TX, John Tompkins and wife, Cheryl of South Gibson, PA and Nate Tompkins and wife, Marsha of South Gibson, PA; ten grandchildren: Sandy, Jake, Tyler, Clair, Hollis, Paulina, Marguerite, Avery, Adia and Addison; eight great grandchildren: Calix, Weston, Elijah, Clara Jane, Mia, Emory, Jameson and Kristen; one sister: Cindy Bartkus of South Gibson, PA; two brothers: Larry Griffin of South Gibson, PA and Danny Griffin of South Gibson, PA; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral was held Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA, with Rev. John Shaffer, pastor of the South Gibson United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment, South Gibson Cemetery, South Gibson, PA.
