Jane A. Sopko, 79, of Carbondale, PA., died Monday night, August 27, 2007 at the Mercy Hospital Hospice Unit, Scranton, PA. She was the wife of Nicholas Sopko who died May 14, 1991. Born July 26, 1928 in Carbondale, PA., she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Henrietta (Mundt) McDonald. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale and was employed in the local garment industry prior to her retirement. She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother who will be dearly missed. She enjoyed her instant lottery tickets, cooking and baking. She was affectionately called Cookie Grandma by her beloved grandchildren whom she was extremely proud of. She is survived by four daughters: Jane Ann Pesek and husband Richard of Carbondale, PA., Geraldine Chichak and husband Thomas of Eynon, PA., Mary Voglino and husband Thomas of Carbondale, PA. and Debbie Burns and husband Kurt of Jermyn, PA.; one son: Nicholas Sopko and wife Phyllis of Carbondale, PA.; one sister: Rose Lynch of Carbondale, PA.; two brothers: Paul McDonald of Honesdale, PA. and Joseph McDonald of Carbondale, PA.; 18 Grandchildren; 16 Great Grandchildren; Several Nieces Nephews. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter: Tracie Voglino; two brothers: Robert McDonald and infant Gerald; two sisters: Evelyn Tolerico and infant Geraldine. The funeral was held Thursday, August 30, 2007 at 9:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home, Inc., Farview 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by the Rev. William D. Campbell, senior priest. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Friends called Wednesday, August 29, 2007 from 2-4 7-9 PM. Pallbearers: All Grandsons-Steven Sopko, Nicholas Sopko, Michael Sopko, Kurt Burns, T.J. Chichak and Thomas Voglino.
