James P. Sposito, P.G., 49, of Carbondale, PA, died Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at home after a brief battle with cancer.
Born November 21, 1966 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of Atty. James A. Sposito of Crystal Lake, PA and Karen Mascelli Riffe and husband Delmer of Carbondale. Jim was a 1984 graduate of Carbondale Area High School and received his bachelors of science degree from Elmira College. He furthered his studies for his career at North Carolina State University in soil science, the Army Corps of Engineering Wetland Delineation and Management Training and the New Jersey Institute of Technology in hazardous materials. He was a licensed professional geologist in the State of Pennsylvania, was certified by the Board of Geologists in the State of Delaware and was the owner of James P. Sposito Associates, Environmental and Geological Consultants, Carbondale.
Jim was a member of the Elkview Country Club, Crystal Lake, the Carbondale Planning Commission, Carbondale Chamber of Commerce, the State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, hockey and was an antique car collector. He especially enjoyed his time as a DJ on college radio in Elmira and later for WCDL Radio in Carbondale.
He is survived by one daughter: Nicole Sposito of Carbondale, PA; his Fiancee: Marie Elena Bintliff of Carbondale, PA; sister: Angela Sposito of St. Petersburg, FL; step sisters: Lynn Gerke of Menomonee Falls, WI and Tracy Hofmann of Fort Wayne, IN; step brothers: Greg Riffe of Zeeland, MI and Jeff Riffe of Troy, MI; nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents: Albert and Edna Bei Mascelli, Anthony and Hortense Tallarico Sposito; an aunt: Darlene Sposito.
The funeral was held Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Andrew Kurovsky, administrator. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Eric Farrell, William Powell, P.J. McGovern, Robert Warhola, Brian Kelsch, Jeff Andrews, Robert Ashby and Robert Tracy. Friends called Friday, June 10, 2016 from 5-8 p.m.
