James Martin Riechers, 68, of Scranton, PA, died Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Commonwealth Hospice, Scranton. His wife the former Alice O'Neill Warren preceded him in death.
Born in Mill City, PA, son of the late Warren and Shirley Jane Smith Riechers. He was also preceded in death by his step mother Lillian Schlom Riechers
He was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School and later helped on the family farm. Prior to his retirement, Jim had been employed as a truck driver for 28 years. Over the years, he also worked as a cab driver and a fork lift operator. He had been a member of the 4H Club and also the Philadelphia Sportsman Club.
Jim was very generous to others and was always willing to put the needs of others before his own. He was a loving son, husband, father, brother and grandfather.
He is survived by three chiildren: James Riechers and wife Laura of Alden, PA, William Riechers of Scranton, PA and Deanna Mercadante and husband Chris of Peckville, PA; one brother: Mark Riechers of Easton, PA; six grandchildren: Bailey, William, Jr., Leia, Jacob and Nathan Riechers and Christopher Mercadante; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Charles Riechers.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst, PA, with Pastor Oleh Kubik, officiating.
Shifler-Parise Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Clifford, PA, assisted the family with arrangements.
