James P. Palmiero, 77, of Greenfield Township, PA, died Friday, January 24, 2025 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Wilkes Barre, PA, after an illness. He is survived by his wife, the former Susan Scavo. They were married on August 5, 1989.
Born March 4, 1947 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late James A. and Palma Luparella Palmiero.
Jim was a graduate of Johnson High School in Scranton, PA, and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He and his father operated a dress factory, Palmiero Manufacturing Company in Carbondale, for many years. Jim later went into the carpentry business with his father-in-law, Russell Scavo, where they operated Country Classic Kitchens. Prior to his retirement, Jim worked in the maintenance department at the Gino Merli Veterans Center in Scranton. When it came to woodworking Jim was a true craftsman who enjoyed working part-time on projects during his retirement. He was extremely proud of the fact that he and his father-in-law built his and Susie's home in Greenfield Township.
Jim is also survived his sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Linda and Paul Striefsky, his sister-in-law: Clare Scavo; two aunts: Rose Carachilo and Regina Palmiero; and numerous cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Russell and Clara Scavo; and a brother-in-law: Gregory Stackhouse.
The funeral was held Wednesday, January 29, 2025 from Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, PA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, PA, celebrated by Rev. Seth Wasnock, pastor. Interment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Lt. Col. Eugene Carachilo, Robert Carachilo, Bruce Caselli, Joseph Cowan, Matthew Cowan and Joseph Weidner.
Viewing hours were held Tuesday, January 28, 2025 from 4-6 p.m.
