James M. Lynady, Sr., 92, of Newton Lake. PA, passed away peacefully Friday, July 12, 2024 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA, surrounded by friends.
Born August 14, 1931 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late John J. Lynady and Pearl Wilber Gardner.
Jimmy was a 1949 graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and a 1953 graduate of East Stroudsburg University where he earned a BA in Education. A proud veteran, James enlisted in the Army, serving in the medical corps as a dental assistant and hitchhiked from Washington, D.C. to his beloved Carbondale home, every weekend. His time in the service was a testament to his commitment to helping others.
Jimmy enjoyed a vibrant and fulfilling life as a "snowbird", splitting his time between winters in Fort Myers, FL and summers in Newton Lake, PA. He was an avid member of the MG of America Club. Winning many awards for his cherished 1959 MGA, a car he bought brand new and kept throughout his life. Sailing on the tall ships, out of Camden, ME, was a yearly adventure starting in the 1980's.
The family would like to thank the Borders family for their friendship to Jimmy for many years.
He faced personal losses with resilience in the loss of his former wife Kate Miller Lynady who passed away in 2008, his son James M. Lynady, Jr. in 2016, his brother Jack Lynady and his brother-in-law, Chuck Howard, who was a treasured family member.
Jimmy is survived by his loving daughter: Kelly Shannon and husband Dave of Perth, NY; four cherished grandchildren: Jack Raymond, Catherine Rose, Jake and Rachel and husband, Joey. His sister-in-law: Carolyn Miller Howard, his nieces: Dana, Dawn, Carrie and nephew: Chris. Many true friends from Maine and NEPA, and on to Fort Myers, FL.
