Obituary

James L. Racht (Rocky), 72, of Carbondale Township, PA, was called home to be with God on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous seven-year battle with cancer. Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Mary Ann Jura, who was the love of his life.

Born September 25, 1951 in Honesdale, PA, he was raised in Carbondale Township. Jim was a 1969 graduate of Lakeland High School and proudly served for 22 years with the 109th Infantry Division of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. After high school, Jim began his career with Scranton Door and Sash Company and later retired from PennDOT where he worked as a mechanic for 20 plus years.

Jim was known by family and friends as "Mr. Fix-It" as his vast mechanical skills allowed him to repair anything. He will fondly be remembered for his kindness and generosity, always willing to help others at a moment's notice. Jim was the proud grandfather of four grandchildren who affectionately called him "Papa". Papa's unwavering support of his grandchildren was obvious as he proudly attended all their activities and events through the years. Papa's grandchildren were the center of his life and the reason he continued to fight this devastating disease. There are no words to describe the void left in our hearts by Papa's passing and how much he will be missed by his family.

Jim is survived by two daughters: Tina Boshman and husband, Dan, and Melanie Connor, all of Carbondale Township, PA; four grandchildren: Jordan Boshman and fiancée, Kelsey Hartman, McKenzie Connor, Cameron Connor and Alysha Boshman. Jim is also survived by his dog, Annie, who was his faithful companion and best friend providing him so much comfort during his illness.

Private funeral services were held from Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA .
