James J. Fazio, Jr., 80, of Carbondale, PA., died Tuesday night, May 18, 2010 at the Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA. He was the husband of the former Elizabeth J. Shifler. He was preceded in death by his first wife the former Joanne Mussari, who died January 27, 1994. Born April 17, 1930 in Carbondale, PA., he was the son of the late James J. and Marietta (Clause) Fazio, Sr. He was a graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and was a Korean War veteran having served as a Corporal in the Army. He started his career as a printer with Mums Review and the Carbondale Review and later retired from the Scranton Times after 35 years of service. He was a former scoutmaster of Boy Scout Throop 5 in Carbondale and was the current committeeman for Boy Scout Throop 8 of Carbondale. He was a member of the Pioneer Youth, Archbald Activities Club, VFW Post 4712 in Simpson and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale. An avid hunter, he was a member of the Stillwater Hunting Club. He was a 50 year member of the Scranton Times 25 Year Club and was a member of the International Typographical Union. He is survived by four children: Debra Morgan of Venice, FL., James A. Fazio and wife Maureen of Center Valley, PA., David Fazio and wife Terri of Forest City, PA. and Deane Fazio of Greenfield Township, PA.; two step children, Donna Chindemi of Carbondale, PA. and Glen Shifler and wife Caroline of Greenfield Township, PA.; three grandsons: Curtis James Chervanka, David James Fazio and Colton Fazio; four step grandchildren: Sarah, Jennifer and Jason Shifler and Lilian Applegate; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister: Marietta Martino. The funeral was held Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 9:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Russell E. Motsay, pastor. Interment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Friends called Friday, May 21, 2010 from 4-8 PM. Pallbearers: James A. Fazio, David Fazio, Deane Fazio, Glen Shifler, Jason Shifler, Jerry Corrigan, Curtis Chervanka and David Lucas.
