Obituary

James A. Red Cosgrove, Jr., 81, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA., died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at home after being stricken ill. Born August 19, 1928 in Carbondale, PA., he was the son of the late James, Sr. and Kathleen (McKenna) Cosgrove. He was a 1956 graduate of the University of Scranton with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education. He was employed by the United States Postal Service as a Railroad Mail Clerk and then as Postmaster of the Union Dale Post Office, Union Dale, PA. He was also a substitute teacher in the Carbondale Area School District. He was an Army veteran and a member of NAPUS, National Association of Postmasters of the US and NARFE, National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He is survived by one sister: Mary Leotti of Toms River, NJ.; one brother-in-law: David Jennings of Clarks Summit, PA.; one sister-in-law: Delores Cosgrove of Ohio; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great great nieces. He was preceded in death by one sister: Elizabeth Jennings; one brother: Joseph Cosgrove; one brother-in-law: Anthony Leotti. The funeral was held Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 10:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Farview 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Monsignor David L. Tressler, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Friends called Tuesday morning from 9:00 - 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Pallbearers: Lou Pasqualicchio, Lou Pasqualicchio, Tom Pasqualicchio, David Jennings, Mike Leotti and Brad Ralston.
