Henry Donald Donnie Palutis, age 74, of Carbondale, PA, died Monday evening, February 24, 2014 at the Commonwealth Hospice at Regional Hospital, Scranton, after a short but inspiring battle with cancer. He was the husband of the late Diana Carachilo Palutis, who died December 24, 2007.
Born April 14, 1939 in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Bernard and Virginia O'Hara Palutis.
Donnie graduated from Central High School in Scranton in 1957 and then served in the Army. Thereafter, Donnie received his Associate's Degree in Accounting from Lackawanna Jr. College. Donnie worked for several different companies during his career including The Finance Company, Emory Air Freight, Proprietor of Don's Deli Diner and Shoprite. He most enjoyed the opportunities he had working with his brother's Bernard and Richard at The Deli in Chinchilla, PA and the Keyser Valley Deli in Scranton, PA.
More than anything, Donnie cherished his children, grandchildren and his beloved wife. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Carbondale.
Donnie was a talented musician, skilled equestrian and notable cook. He shared his love for all three with his children.
He is survived by one daughter: Melissa and husband Brian Kelly of Carbondale, PA; three sons: Joseph and wife Karen Palutis of Blue Bell, PA, Don Paul and wife Kathleen Palutis of Blue Bell, PA and Michael and wife Nancy Palutis of Ocean, NJ; ten grandchildren: Haleigh and Brandon Palutis of Blue Bell, PA, Madeline, Julia and Jaqueline Kelly of Carbondale, PA, Joel and Joshua Palutis of Blue Bell, PA and Olivia, Jake Henry and Autumn Palutis of Ocean, NJ; one brother: Richard Palutis of Scranton, PA; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers; Paul John 'PJ and Bernard Palutis
The funeral was held Friday, February 28, 2014 at 9:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale. Interment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Atty. Jeff Levine, Scott Snyder, John, Michael, Gene, Francis, Dominick and Paul Carachilo. Friends called Thursday, February 27, 2014 from 5-8 PM.
