Helen E. Wells, 89, a resident of the Forest City Nursing Home, Forest City, PA. and formerly of Clifford Township, PA., died Wednesday morning, January 25, 2012 at the Northeast Pennsylvania Hospice, Scranton, PA. She was the wife of the late Richard C. Wells, who died on November 29, 1976.
Born March 1, 1922 in Jermyn, PA., she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary Tellep Hameza.
She was a graduate of Greenfield Township Schools and was a life long member of the Clifford United Methodist Church, Clifford, PA., as well as its United Methodist Women's organization and the Dorcas Circle. She and her husband operated a farm in Clifford for 50 years and she also worked at the former Carbondale General Hospital and the former Clifford Dress Factory. She was a Charter Member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Clifford Township Volunteer Fire Company and was also a member of the former Carbondale General Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by three daughters: Diane Weber and husband Herbert of Port Crane, NY., Donna Marie Wells of Merrimack, NH. and Deborah McWhirr and husband Ron of Clifford, PA.; five grandchildren: Linda Guernsey, Kevin Weber, Jordan, Shaya and Colin Davis; two great grandchildren: Mathieu and Joshuah Guernsey; two step grandchildren: Daniel and Samantha McWhirr; two sisters: Rose Zabrowski of Jermyn, PA. and Irene Tardosky of Chambersburg, PA.; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: William and Nicholas Hameza.
The funeral was held Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 11:00 AM from the Clifford United Methodist Church, State Route 106, Clifford, PA., with Rev. Alan Jagger, pastor of the Owego United Methodist Church, Owego, NY. and Pastor Peg Knapich of the Clifford United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment, Willow View Cemetery, Clifford, PA.
Pallbearers: Kevin Weber, Jordan Davis, Colin Davis, James Guernsey, Richard Gummoe and Glen Lewis
