Helen E. Soltis, 92, of Slingerlands, NY., died Friday, September 17, 2010 at home. She was the wife of the late John Soltis, who died December 6, 1971.
Born April 6, 1918 in Pittston, PA., she was the daughter of the late William and Anna (Slebodnik) Salansky.
She was a former resident of Union Dale, PA. and had resided with her daughter and son-in-law in Slingerlands, NY. for the past ten years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Voorheesville, NY. and was a former member of the Welsh Hill Congregational Church, Union Dale.
She was a graduate of Jermyn High School, Monmouth Memorial Hospital School of Nursing where she attained her registered nursing degree and the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Prior to her retirement in 1986, she had been employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a public health nurse for 30 years. She was a board member of the Trehab of Susquehanna County and a member and past president of the Nellie Jane Dewit BPW Club.
She is survived by two daughters: Jean Kneiss and husband Peter and Sally Soltis, all of Slingerlands, NY.; two grandchildren: Aaron Kneiss of Winchester, MA. and Ryan Kneiss of Athens, Greece; four great grandchildren: Mark, Alexandra, Eric and Isaac; one brother: Thomas Salansky and wife Lois of Union Dale, PA. and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers: John, William, George and Joseph Salansky; five sisters: Mary Stumpf, Eleanor Sholtis, Evelyn Salansky, Emma O'Hop and Ann Marie Berish.
The funeral was held Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at 11:00 AM at the Bethel Congregation at Welsh Hill Church, Union Dale with the Rev. Jay Molyneaux, pastor, officiating. Interment, Welsh Hill Cemetery, Union Dale.
Pallbearers: Aaron Kneiss, Ryan Kneiss, David Soltis, Steven Salansky, Ronald Salansky and Christopher Scott Salansky.
Friends called Monday, September 20, 2010, from 4-8 PM at the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA.
