Helen J. Phillips age 61, of 56 Main Street, Clifford died Sunday evening, August 11, 2002 at Mercy Hospital, Scranton after a courageous battle with colon cancer. She was the wife of Harry E. Phillips.
Born August 23, 1940 in Pittston, PA. She was the daughter of the late Martin and Helen (Baskerville) Gannon.
She was a member of St. Pius X Church, Royal, and its Altar and Rosary Society and chior. She also was a former CCD teacher at the church. She served on the Scranton Diocesan Mission Board and was the North American Link for Mother Teresas Lay Order, The Lay Missionaries of Charity. She was also a member of the Clifford Township Volunteer Fire Companys Ladies Auxillary.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and a special friend who devoted her life to works of charity and caring for others. She made a number of mission trips to Haiti where she found great love in working with the poorest of the poor.

Moran of Lake Sheridan, PA. and Michael P. Moran of Clifford, PA.; two sisters: Ann Marie Shorten of Scranton, PA. and Catherine Norbury of Wilmington, DE.; two step sons: Michael J. Phillips of Dunmore, PA. and Timothy E. Phillips of Scranton, PA.; seven step daughters: Patricia A. Ephault of Scranton, PA., Mary Ann McCormick of Scranton, PA., M. Kathleen Sullivan of Archbald, PA., Joan Stevens of Scranton, PA., M. Elizabeth Resweber of Swathmore, PA., Kim A. Moran of Clarks Summit, PA. and Helen E. Rizos of Marblehead, MA.; 29 Grandchildren; Many Nieces Nephews; three daughter-in-laws: Kathleen M. Moran of Havertown, PA., Lynn A. The funeral will be Friday, August 16, 2002 at 9:30 am from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home Inc. Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with mass at 10:30 am from St. Pius X Church, Rt. 106, Royal, celebrated by Monsignor John Esseff. Interment, Mother Of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Twp.
