Hedwig Jean Zimowski, 99, of South Gibson, PA., died early Monday morning, July 21, 2008 at home. She was the wife of Frank Zimowski who died March 29, 1977.
Born October 22, 1908 in Bayonne, NJ., she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Frances (Pachucka) Nowakowski. She was a member of St. Martin of Tours Church in Jackson, PA. and its Altar Rosary Society. She enjoyed volunteering her time to cook for all of the church dinners. She worked as a seamstress in the Clifford Dress Factory for 26 years. She had a deep love for children and raised her late daughters kids. Over the years she cared for many children. She also enjoyed crocheting, gardening, bingo, trips to Atlantic City and helping her husband on the family farm. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed by her family. She is survived by one daughter: Carol Canfield of South Gibson, PA.; 8 Grandchildren; 11 Great Grandchildren; 2 Great Great Grandchildren; Several Nieces Nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter: Harriet O'Brien; one son: Frank Zimowski; two grandsons: James O'Brien and Steven Zimowski; Seven sisters and one brother. The funeral was held Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 11:00 AM from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home, Dundaff and Main Streets, Clifford, PA., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 PM at St. Martin of Tours Church, Jackson, celebrated by the Rev. Albert P. Leonard, pastor of St. Johns Church, Susquehanna, PA. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Michael Canfield, James Canfield, Warren O'Brien, Travis O'Brien, Dan O'Brien, Sr. and Dan O'Brien, Jr. Friends called Thursday, July 24, 2008 from 9:00 - 11:00 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be sent to the family.
